A Practical Learning Approach Beyond Textbooks

The British Curriculum encourages students to approach their learning with a practical and analytical mindset. Primary children learn that there is often more than one approach to problem-solving and can use their creativity and resilience to develop effective solutions.

We also promote curiosity and initiative, encouraging students to take the lead in projects under the expert guidance of our dedicated teachers. Our hands-on approach to all subjects extends beyond textbooks to include activities like game-based learning in maths, such as treasure hunts and challenges on decimals and fractions, and real-life experiments in Science, like examining wear and tear on tyres. These activities enable children to grasp how syllabus concepts apply to real-world situations.

Key Stage 1 - Years 1 & 2

(AGES 5-7)

In Years 1 and 2 of Primary School, a more structured approach to the day helps children learn how to read, write and count in English. We still encourage them to explore and play at this stage, but they can now describe their discoveries in words and numbers. Our aim is for children to enjoy their time at school and develop the knowledge, understanding and skills necessary to reach their full potential in all areas. Their work is guided by the appropriate level of the English National Curriculum, Key Stage 1, which is by nature broad and balanced. Spanish Language is taught from Year 1 as stipulated by the Spanish Ministry of Education.

Language & Literacy
In Language and Literacy, we create a vibrant environment for English communication, fostering an interest in reading with fluency and enjoyment. Developing handwriting skills is a key focus of this subject.

Maths & Science
In Mathematics and Science, children acquire an understanding of the role of these subjects in everyday life and are encouraged to relate their work to other areas of the curriculum. The skills and attitudes acquired are important components of cross-curricular topic work.

Teachers provide stimulating activities to build up pupil confidence and harness natural curiosity. Children thereby achieve high levels of knowledge, skills and understanding while enjoying the learning process.
